About
Hi, I’m knbyo, short for 火焔描 [ka-en-byou]. No relation. Just call me Orin.
Who the hell are you?
I’m an Australian 30-something salaryman who likes video games and TV shows for children. I used to be a fighting game guy, but now I’m just a guy.
You used to be a fighting game guy?
Well, I say I “used” to be a fighting game guy, but I still kind of am, for better or worse. That said, I have no interest in competing these days so I don’t really pin myself down to any “main games”, though I’m a really big fan of Virtua Fighter, Marvel vs Capcom, The King of Fighters and just about anything in the “poverty fighter” space or otherwise released before 2016.
So… video games and TV shows for children?
I’m really big into arcade games, particularly light gun shooters and arcade racing games like OutRun 2SP and Ridge Racer. That said, I’ll let my interest carry me just about anywhere from RPGs to Musou-style action/strategy games to even impenetrable bullshit like Deadlock.
“TV shows for children” generally encompasses anything that might be considered a cartoon or adjacent to it. I’m a very long-time fan of Kamen Rider, Super Sentai and other tokusatsu action shows, and I’m an enjoyer of shounen anime like Fullmetal Alchemist.
What’s this website for?
Because I think way too hard about the video games and TV shows for children that I mentioned up top, I like to engage in various forms of analysis, be it thematic, narrative or mechanical (depending on what I’m talking about). You’ll find that sort of thing both here and on my YouTube channel. Scripts for videos will usually go up here first as an article or essay.
I also sometimes stream on Twitch, but don’t expect a schedule of any sort.
How do I give you money?
My stance on accepting money for the things I create is a simple one: financial contribution is not an obligation on your part, nor is it an expectation on mine. I accept donations over at my Ko-Fi, but donations are just that: donations. There’s no exclusive access to anything that I make, and if you want a window into my creative process, you can just have it - there’s no transaction here.
If I get any money from this, I want it to be voluntary, freely given and based on gratitude or appreciation. Your thought process should resemble something like this:
That will be all. Now look at this funny cat with whom any relation or similarity I share is completely coincidental.
